Zahrah AlGhamdi: Glimpses of the Past

Glimpses of the Past consists of approximately 6,000 repurposed tin date containers that take the form of a river flowing through the arid landscape, an ode perhaps to AlUla’s former agricultural wealth as an oasis with plentiful date palm groves. Filled with colored sands from different parts of the region and mirrors reflecting the lapis sky, the work speaks to AlUla’s significance as a crossroad of civilization, a place where goods and culture have for millennia been traded.
